Replacing an episode’s media is a publishing change. Check the destinations carefully before confirming, especially if the episode already has a public YouTube link.
Prepare the replacement
- Open the correct episode and check which destinations are live or scheduled.
- In Episode Media, use the upload or replacement control to select the new file. If you only want to change one destination, use its media customization where available.
- Wait for the upload to finish. Review any processing or media-readiness messages before continuing.
- Open the update review. In the current editor, this is Review Changes, followed by Publish Edits. Older episodes may show different review labels.
Check what will change
- RSS: the reviewed update changes the media supplied through the feed. Podcast apps may take time to refresh it.
- Spotify and Megaphone: a normal media replacement updates the existing linked episode, including the Spotify Distribution route. Provider processing still applies. Replacing media is different from unpublishing and recreating the episode; review the provider warning and do not assume instant availability or unchanged analytics.
- Flightcast-managed YouTube uploads: replacement creates a new YouTube video. The old video becomes private, and the new video has a new URL and starts with zero views. Shared links and embeds pointing to the old video will no longer play publicly. The old video’s analytics remain available in YouTube Studio.
- Imported YouTube videos: the reviewed replacement flow does not support replacing the original imported video. Check the episode’s available actions before proceeding.
Confirm and verify
Read the destination-by-destination preview and any acknowledgment about YouTube replacement. Confirm only when the selected media and affected destinations are correct.
After submitting, follow the processing and publishing status for each destination. For scheduled YouTube content, verify the old and replacement video schedules in YouTube Studio. If the outcome is unclear, ask support to reconcile it before uploading again or unpublishing the episode.
